Group Classes
VHOC offers a wide variety of group classes in various sports held at private locations throughout the San Fernando Valley.
*Drop-ins and spectators must receive permission from either the class instructor or registrar before attending a class.
Obedience - Beginning Competitive
Curriculum:
This class is for teams interested in learning the basics for Competition Obedience to help establish a solid foundation needed to obtain a Novice (Companion Dog) or Beginner Novice title in AKC Obedience. Skills taught to include attention, footwork, heeling, stand for exam, figure 8, recall, fronts and finishes, and ringside etiquette for new exhibitors. Focus will be on engagement, enjoyment, and proficiency, and will provide appropriate guidance for individual teams using a balanced training approach conducive to learning.
*Teams should have successfully completed a basic obedience/manners class or equivalent.
When:
Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Location:
Held at private residence in Simi Valley.
Class Limits:
6 working teams per class. 6 week sessions. You do not have to be a member of VHOC to enroll in a class.

Obedience - Open / Utility Obedience
Curriculum:
This class is designed for teams who are working towards a foundation/proficiency in Open/ Utility exercises. Open - drop on recall, command discrimination, retrieves on the flat and over high jump, broad jump, and figure 8. Utility - signals, scent discrimination, directed retrieve, moving stand, and directed jumping. Focus will be to polish established skills and incorporate the advanced skills needed to establish proficiency towards Open (Companion Dog Excellent) and Utility Dog titles.
*Given time constraints in this mixed class, dogs should have experience and be fairly proficient with Novice (Companion Dog) skills.
When:
Thursdays at 7:45 p.m. - 8:45 p.m.
Location:
Held at private residence in Simi Valley.
Class Limits:
6 working teams per class. 6 week sessions. You do not have to be a member of VHOC to enroll in a class.

Agility - Skills & Drills I (Novice-Intermediate Levels)
Curriculum:
Through purposeful, focused exercises and sequences, this class will help teams at the novice to intermediate level develop the skills necessary for success across a variety of agility venues, with unique and challenging solutions customized for each team. Prerequisites: Dogs should be familiar with most of the agility equipment. Instructor approval required.
When:
Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Held at a private, fully fenced location in Reseda.
Class limits:
8 working teams per class.

Continuing Nose Work (Intermediate-Advanced Levels)
Curriculum:
This class will focus on skill building, trouble shooting, reading your dog, and handling with appropriate hide placement for dogs at levels 2 and 3. It is also helpful for handlers and dogs who moved up quickly but are realizing there are some holes in their training and they need help putting it all together.
When:
Mondays at 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

7 working teams per class.
